The Yoga Book 9i takes an innovative approach by forgoing its traditional keyboard deck in favour of an additional display. Although this idea has been explored before (such as Acer’s Iconia Duo tablet in 2010), its implementation in this instance is far more sophisticated and successful. In contrast to foldable phones with single displays, the Yoga Book’s two separate displays can function as a Windows desktop. Both feature a 16:10 aspect ratio and 2,8880 by 1,800 resolution with 400-nit peak brightness for crisp visuals that feature vivid colours that pop, incredible contrast levels, and crisp details rendered clearly – not to mention full RGB support that makes photo editing and 1080p video production even simpler!
Lenovo’s Yoga Book stands out with its Intel Core i7-1355U processor, 16GB LPDDR5x memory and 1TB PCIe SSD, providing impressive productivity performance. Though not the fastest convertible we’ve tested, this convertible can handle most daily applications and games effortlessly.
The only major downside of the Yoga Book is its poor integrated graphics, which limit its capabilities as an entertainment or gaming machine. Even if you plan on using it primarily for productivity purposes, upgrading its internal graphics could prove invaluable if demanding content creation or high-end gaming becomes your goal. Doing this would keep it a strong contender as an affordable 2-in-1.
Dell XPS 13
If you want a laptop that looks great, performs well, and is lightweight, nothing compares to the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 laptop. Their clamshell versions cost $1,449 with Intel Core i7-1250U processors, Intel Iris Xe graphics and 32GB RAM; alternatively, there’s also the budget-conscious XPS 13 2-in-1 (9315). That one offers dual-core Intel Core i3-1205G1 processors and 4GB of RAM.
Dell recently refreshed the XPS lineup to support Intel’s P and U series chips, adding colour options such as Sky and Umber on U models instead of carbon fibre for additional appeal. The XPS 13 remains an exceptional laptop, with this latest iteration even more attractive.
Dell remains tight-lipped on its panel type; it may be an IPS or SuperPLS display without the colour shifts found on traditional TN panels. Meanwhile, its machined aluminium chassis makes for a luxurious feel in your hand and feels light enough for everyday use.
One area where the XPS 13 needs to improve is tablet mode. While its lightweight body makes it comfortable to hold, the protruding webcam makes using it as a tablet awkward and cumbersome. Furthermore, wake-up times from sleep mode can take around five hours of video playback time before shutting down again.
As with other premium laptops, the XPS 13 is less portable than some may wish; however, its weight of 2.65 pounds still makes it quite portable. Although heavier than its predecessor (the older XPS 13 Plus), that should come as no surprise since this version includes additional components like touchscreen technology and beefier hinges; nevertheless, it remains one of the top 2-in-1 laptops.
